Heat Exchanger is a piece of equipment built for the efficient transfer of heat from one medium to other. The two mediums are separated by a solid wall so that they never mix or they may be in direct contact.
Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers
These heat exchangers consists of a series of tubes enclosed within a shell. One fluid runs through the tubes while the other fluid runs over the tubes. These two fluids will never come directly in contact with each other. These tubes are held in place within the shell by the two tube sheets at the ends of the shell. The tube sheets and the shell are joined by welding process. The tubes are joined to the tube sheet by means of expansion process. Baffles are provided to support the length of the bundle and to increase the time of flow of the fluid in the shell. The ends of the tube sheets are closed by end covers. The heat exchangers are tested to check the integrity of the tube expansion and the welds.
